Celebrating Summer.

I absolutely love Seattle summer. The sunshine and its warmth is just the right amount to hang out outdoors and I thought it was finally time to have a ladies get together in our backyard. Today I thought I’d share some pictures from this celebration we had. Here is a little glimpse into it.

The picnic table was inspired by this image found via pinterest. I used some wood planks lying in our garage from the previous owners and used wood crates from JoAnn’s to make our own makeshift picnic table. I loved how it looked with the rug I dragged from our living area and the pillows from all around our house. I picked up a mixed bouquet from the grocery store and my sweet friend Ayesha did the flower arrangements in the assortment of glass jars that I keep collecting. I wanted to keep it colorful and bright so I used some of my dupattas1 to cover the tables. Also kept an activity area for the kids with a basket full of basic toys as well as markers/crayons and lots of paper to keep them busy.

For the food, I kept it really simple. Some chips and salsa to nibble on, a pasta, sandwiches, pizza, lots of fruit, a dessert and ice cream to end it all. Followed by tea of course, because a ladies afternoon is incomplete without that.

It turned out to be quite a lovely afternoon spent with good friends. One of the joys of life is celebrating the little occasions with our family and friends and we forget sometimes what an honor it is, to be invited to loved ones’ houses and to be able to invite them over. Hope this inspires you to celebrate whatever occasion is around the corner, with your loved ones.

Thanks for reading and for stopping by!

FYI: 1 A dupatta is an important part of the 3 piece Pakistani outfit for ladies. It is basically a long scarf that can be worn a variety of ways. Go here to see a beautiful fashion shoot that shows it worn in a multitude of ways.

WHAT WE WORE when it is sandals weather finally.

20130504-18

Happy Monday morning to all of you sweet people. So I desperately need to shop for Anya as she is pretty out of clothes these days. Her shoe situation is pretty bad, let me tell you. But this little sandal purchase for her on Amazon last month, turned out to be a big success. I love the look of the traditional style Saltwater sandals that I was seeing everywhere, but they seemed a little tight for these chubby feet when we tried them on. These ones, the sweetheart style as they call them work perfectly. Here she is wearing them with her chambray dress from last year that we will wear one way or another till her head absolutely wont fit through it! Yes I love it that much! Hehe :)

Anya wears: Chambray dress from Target from last year, Tights from Baby Gap, Saltwater Sandals.

Mama wears: Top from Target, Jeans from Forever 21, Shoes from REPORT found at TJ Maxx, Pearl ear studs that my dad brought from a trip to China many many years ago.

How is it going with you guys? It has been a while. If only I could get all the posts in my head written and published. Sigh.

Thanks for stopping by!

If you lived closer.

For our family that is close in heart, but too far away in person. Also for the many sweet friends that live too far away.

20130604-420130604-6

If you lived closer, we would’ve called you up first thing today and convinced you to come over because the weather was too perfect to not be together. If you lived closer, you would’ve joined Anya and I for our little picnic in the backyard. We would’ve combined our leftovers and feasted on them for lunch, with fruit and iced water in the shade.

20130604-16

If you lived closer, we would’ve laughed and made fun of each other, talked about life and dreams and our days. Anya would’ve interrupted our conversations with ‘Excuse me, Anya baat kar ri hai’ Excuse me, Anya is talking, every little while. We would’ve danced to the music, and tried to convince Anya to let us listen to some thing other than Mother Goose.

If you lived closer, we would’ve argued over who will make tea and my mom and I would’ve enjoyed drinking it together. Anya would’ve wanted your complete attention and we would’ve tried to get her busy with something so we could’ve talked.

If you lived closer, we would’ve spent days like today together and ended them with the feeling of a day well-spent. Only if you lived closer.

Pictures from our afternoon in the sun - having lunch, reading books, coloring, talking, listening to music and eating ice cream. On days like today, when the weather is perfect and we make the most of it, I miss you all even more. How I wish you lived closer.
